Tracy is a twenty-something red-headed photographer & designer from Manila, Philippines. She is one of the co-founders of Tender Blender Food Design, and takes pictures of (and designs things for) food for a living, but is open to other freelance work involving a camera.

This blog is a mix of her work and bits of her personal life (though the two often occur simultaneously).

She finds it a bit odd speaking in third person about herself.

Today while hanging out at the food court in Shang with Kuki & Alex, we spotted a boy wearing my Coffee shirt! It was such a proud moment for me. I did what any other person would — made like a stalker and took a photo of him from a distance.

April 29, 2011.Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2.Philippines.

Another of my projects that I had abandoned was my blog, They Never Knew, which contained nothing but photos I took of people wherever I went. I made it a point to post images wherein the people in the pictures were unaware of me taking their photos, capturing real and unposed moments.
I’m thinking of reviving this, too. I don’t understand how I thought to bring myself to stop all these projects I had a year or two ago, they were so good for me. They were good not only because I got to train my creative eye, but because it was somehow therapeutic for me to just walk around, observe, and capture.
I think sometimes, when we finally think to take a step back to observe something we’ve created in the past, only then do we ever realize just how beautiful it is. When we’re in the process of making something, our mindset then is that we’re sure that what we’re doing is something worth taking time over — because we’re positive that it’s going to turn out amazing.
Guess I was on the right track, starting those little projects for myself.

Sometime last year, I was able to take photos of one of my clients’ daughter while waiting. My client introduced me to her then-three-year-old little girl, and suggested she let me take photos of her while we wait.
Trinny has since then been one of my favorite subjects to take photos of. While I asked her to sit or stand in certain places around their house and took photos of her, we talked endlessly about the simplest of things. “Do you do ballet?” “Is pink your favorite color?” “Are you being a good older sister to your brother?” She answered every question in complete sentences, with a bit of story-telling on the side. Not only did she pose and smile when I asked her to, she’d even suggest places where I could take photos of her. She was the sweetest thing, and wonderful to take photos of. (:
I learned then that when shooting people, it’s important that both parties make an effort to create a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. I’ve learned that while you can be a great photographer, you may end up with a model who can tend to be too shy to do certain poses. The other way around can also be quite the pickle. Your model is excellent, but you may be too afraid to get down on the ground for that low angle shot, or too shy to direct the model and/or suggest poses.
It was actually with Trinny that I learned to be a little more vocal with how I think a shot can be improved by directing. It helped a lot that she was just as chatty, and open to what I would suggest for her to do. I actually think I’m able to talk to little kids more openly than with older people, but it’s a start.

Troy & Jessica - Behind the ScenesPhotography
A little teaser of a shoot I did last weekend. First time to do a prenup shoot, and it was quite an experience! Can’t wait to put up the other photos, but I must practice my patience. June/July!

Resistance = futile. Had to post at least one BTS shot if I can’t post an actual photo yet. Love!

A fantastic way to begin my Hong Kong vacation, and one of the highlights of my trip — meeting Kai Wong, quirky presenter of DigitalRev TV on YouTube! My cousin Troy and I went up to him to ask if we could take our pictures with him before we took the train to Kowloon from the airport. :D
Don’t mind my face, that’s my “awkward-but-I-don’t-really-care-cause-this-is-awesome” smile. Starstruck much? (:

That morning sunlight looks good on you, all the time. ♥
It’s a bit comforting, waking up to Kiks on my computer, hahaha. Taken a little while back, when Kiks came over one morning.

Heroes Square again

I was invited again to document some of the Heroes Square tours at Intramuros! Today, we had first year high school students from San Beda to entertain (and educate).

They were a…lively bunch, to say the least. Some of the kids were really funny - one or two of them asked me what my name was, and proceeded to tell me that I looked like Hayley Williams. A bunch asked to have their pictures taken with me (for whatever reasons I will never understand), and later referred to me as “Batgirl” (I was wearing my Batgirl shirt) when saying goodbye.

Apart from the performances in Fort Santiago and the Rizal Shrine, I was finally able to witness those in the other parts of Intramuros. Whuddup sir Andoni as Padre Sanchez!

“Many people in my family suffer from depression. It’s one of the main reasons I decided to become a photographer. I wanted to create colorful, positive, feel good images.” -Katie Sokoler
One of the best reasons I’ve ever heard for becoming a photographer.
One of the teachers at Gymboree in Trinoma showed me Katie’s blog, and I immediately fell in love. She takes such beautiful pictures, and has the funnest, cutest ideas. It’s like she’s a 12-year-old in a 23-year-old’s body! She’s adorable.
What I love about her is that she just seems so spontaneous and full of energy. She just goes and does what she loves doing. I kind of want to go to New York just to see if I can chance upon meeting this lovely girl and hopefully soak up some that…whatever it is that makes her so amazing.
I can’t stop looking at her pictures. So much inspiration flooding my brain!
Check out her blog, it’s full of colorful photos and fun stories! (:
